Commercial Become Familiar With Your Remediation Options When Facing Commercial Water Damage in Daytona Businesses affected by water damage lose productivity quickly. Contact SERVPRO right away to determine the cause and remediate your damage.

Commercial Water Removal for Daytona Businesses

Daytona area businesses deal with flooding from a variety of sources. Although storm flooding gets the majority of the attention, most water damage comes from smaller sources such as broken appliances, split lines or pipes, and blocked or malfunctioning drains.

For many businesses, commercial water removal in Daytona has to happen quickly. For a business that specializes in new or upgrading kitchens and bathrooms, SERVPRO knows there is an issue not just with standing water, but with high humidity that affects structural property and some inventory items.

Regardless of what the business may be, the first action taken has to be making it safe to walk and work in the facility. That means our technicians have to remove the water from off the floor and out of the carpets. For high levels of standing water, they use commercial grade pumps that can remove the water from businesses in a day or two, depending on the total area and the amount of water.

For water just covering the surface, they use extraction wands. Technicians can adjust these smaller devices to remove water quickly but not damage the surface of wood floors or damage carpet fibers. The wands we use also contain a heating element, so SERVPRO team members can begin drying the carpets as they draw out the water.

With the water gone, team members quickly move in dehumidifiers to draw moisture from the air and surrounding property and inventory. Depending on the item, many materials quickly absorb water. Lowering the humidity reduces the risk to inventory items like wallpaper and helps to dry out drywall panels. Each dehumidifier can remove up to 25 gallons of water every 24 hours, depending on the humidity level of the surrounding air.

Technicians also dry material and inventory by setting up air movers and fans. They direct warm, dry air from the air movers to force moisture out of the property. The fans draw out the cooler, damp air and force it outside.

At SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange, we have two goals. We want to help each business preserve its inventory and reopen doors to customers as quickly as possible. If you need these services, call us today at (386) 788-0358 to get started.

Water Damage How To Get Rid Of Odor From Water Damage In Daytona Beach When you thought that you have gotten rid of all the excess water, water damage can still leave a disastrous odor in your house.

How To Getting Rid Of Odor From Water Damage

When you thought that you have gotten rid of all the excess water, water damage can still leave a disastrous odor in your house. The water content can remain hidden in walls, carpets, floors, air, and cracks. The moisture promotes the growth of odor-causing bacteria, fungi, molds, and mildew. These organisms can create an unpleasant smell that can fill the whole room. If the odor is left unmanaged, it can significantly reduce the value of your house.

Water damage in Daytona Beach can be a complicated case. People often use air freshener, perfume, or scented candles to get rid of the smell, but that only mask the odor. The worse part is inviting friends and family over for a small gathering. They might have to suffer the horrible smell with you. If you want to get rid of these odors, then you might have to invest in some expensive tools and equipment.

Luckily, with SERVPRO, they can help you get rid of those nasty odors that were left behind from water damage. These technicians can use advanced equipment like the Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Foggers and the Thermal Foggers. The ULV can produce a fine mist that can penetrate odor-causing residues that have accumulated from the water damage. This technology can also inject fungicides and disinfectant that can kill off odor-causing micro-organisms in wall cavities and other difficult to access locations. Another tool that these techs can use is the thermal foggers, which dispenses a large amount of solvent-based fogs in a confined area. These fogs contain a powerful deodorant solution that can help neutralize odor-causing particles in the air. Once the odors are killed off by this equipment, the technicians can give you a final walk-through so you can finally get a scent of fresh air in your home.

If you are ready to get rid of the odor that is left behind by water damages, then give SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange a call at (386) 788-0358 for a consultation with a reliable technician.

Saving Important Items During Restoration Of Fire Damage In Daytona Beach

Fire Damage Saving Important Items During Restoration Of Fire Damage In Daytona Beach When a fire breaks out, it is likely to damage everything within range.

Saving Important Items During Restoration

When a fire breaks out, it is likely to damage everything within range. Most of the damage is likely to be concentrated to the upholstery or wooden items in the affected part of your Daytona Beach property. Different types of damage might occur, so restoration efforts differ. For example, wooden fixtures caked with soot require different restoration efforts compared to those scorched by the flames. Working with a professional restorer helps ensure the correct method is used.

Restoration of small fire damage in Daytona Beach might only involve soot removal. Although this might seem simple, the microscopic particles that form soot penetrate deep into the affected wood or upholstery materials making the cleanup process harder. Our SERVPRO technicians first vacuum the affected area. This helps pull the tiny particles out instead of pushing them deep into the affected material. We then finish the process by cleaning the area using a brush, sponge, cloth material soaked in water, or other cleaning solutions based on what materials the fire burnt.

Sometimes the damage done might not be visible. For example, the smoke that penetrates deep into your upholstery items may leave no visible signs. However, the odor is not pleasant, and if you wait for it to dissipate naturally, it can take a long while to clear. Our SERVPRO team uses different equipment to deodorize your home restoring it to its preloss conditions. We can use hydroxyl generators, which chemically alter the odor particles eliminating any smells in the affected environment.

Wood burns easily, and fire is likely to start in areas close to wooden surfaces such as cabinets. So, even when there is minimal damage from the fire, some of these surfaces end up charred or discolored by the flames. Our SERVPRO technicians can help restore such areas by cleaning the wood. We sand away the charred surfaces. We also use professional grade cleaning agents to clean any discolored surfaces. Finally, we dry off any excess moisture from the cleaning process to ensure problems like warping or rotting do not occur.

Restoring damaged areas after a fire can be a tiring experience. Call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 for assistance and advice.

Remediating Mold Damage To Daytona Beach Homes

8/28/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Remediating Mold Damage To Daytona Beach Homes Mold can grow into porous surfaces, so they may need to be removed from the home completely to clean or dispose of them.

Remediating Mold Damage

Daytona Beach residents deal with the effects of the sun year-round. The nearly constant heat is attractive for many people, even taking hurricane season into account. The sunshine, however, does not prevent mold from expanding and growing in every home in our community.

SERVPRO restoration teams follow four key steps to stop and eliminate mold damage in Daytona Beach. First, they establish containment, then remove mold contamination, clean out settled spores, and dry affected materials.

Unless the mold has grown through the entire home, technicians establish containment to isolate the mold colony and prevent accidental contamination to mold-free areas of the home. They begin with sealing the vents of the HVAC system to prevent mold spread and then cover all entrances and exits with plastic sheeting.

SERVPRO technicians then remove the mold. For non-porous surfaces like glass and marble, they wipe them down using dry sponges or cloths. If the mold is very thick or sticky, team members employ an anti-fungal cleaner to break up the layers for easier removal.

Mold can grow into porous surfaces, so they may need to be removed from the home completely to clean or dispose of them. Upholstered furniture can require extensive work with scrub brushes and anti-fungal cleaners to neutralize and remove mold spores trapped in the fabric. If the spores penetrated through the entire chair or sofa, it might take an immersion tank to completely soak the item to restore it to its original, clean state.

There are also semi-porous materials like wood and concrete that may require sanding or use a wire brush to remove mold spores completely. If a wood support structure has mold on its surface for an extended period, technicians would examine it for structural integrity.

Once technicians complete cleaning efforts, they wait for spores released into the air to settle. They wipe down all surfaces and use vacuum cleaners with specially designed HEPA filters to capture remaining spores off walls and tables, and draw them out of carpets. They repeat the process until an air content meter tests at normal levels for inert mold.

After completing all procedures, team members remove the containment and dry materials in the affected area to prevent new growth. They use dehumidifiers to draw moisture from the surrounding air and a combination of air movers and fans to force warm air across damp surfaces and draw the cooler air from the now clean area of the home.

Our goal at SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange is to return each home to its original condition as quickly as possible. If you have mold growth, or simply suspect there is mold in your home, call us today at (386) 788-0358 to schedule an inspection.

Flood Damage and Your Daytona Home's Floors

8/26/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Flood Damage and Your Daytona Home's Floors Flooding after a storm can be overwhelming. When you and your family are safe, call SERVPRO to dry out and remediate the damage.

Team SERVPRO Understands the Resounding Need to Help Prevent Possible Secondary Damages After Flooding

The rooms inside your Daytona home all gain a significant portion of their personality from their flooring. Each flooring type's different strengths and weaknesses affect how well they fare in a disaster. During the restoration process, many homeowners choose to replace damaged flooring types with those that suffer less damage in a similar tragedy.

When our area experiences severe weather, flood damage in Daytona can affect the entire city. Homeowners need reliable professionals. SERVPRO sends out technicians who are well-trained, certified, experienced and carry the necessary tools to perform all the restoration work a flooded house requires. We can restore your home back to pre-disaster condition, “Like it never even happened.”

The bacterial load carried into a house primes that house for further destruction in the future from microbial infestation and overgrowth. These microbes, as well as significant amounts of moisture, become trapped in tight spaces, including under the visible part of your flooring.

While your flooring may seem nearly impervious to the effects of water, standing water that remains for days or weeks can penetrate into spaces that otherwise would stand up to large spills. Water that seeps under linoleum dissolves glue while microbial activity produces gas that creates bubbled areas, forcing the linoleum to stretch. Wood laminate flooring can quickly disintegrate into pieces, causing a huge mess of a once-beautiful floor.

SERVPRO technicians have experience in removing individual boards in hardwood floors to prevent any damaging effects caused by the widening that wet boards experience. Giving boards the temporary space they need can eliminate permanent damage. It can also make our drying techniques much more efficient.

Removing tile from floors allows us to get the sub-floor to the moisture levels recommended by the manufacturer of the new flooring materials. Installing materials over too-damp underlay or concrete can cause your new flooring to fail, and possibly void any warranty related to your new flooring. Correctly installing your new floor gets the rest of your home ready for re-installation of shelving, cabinets, and other features that your family needs.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange is always ready to help those in Allandale, Harbor Oaks, and nearby cities whenever flood damage ruins your home. The restoration work your home needs in such situations begins with a call from you to (386) 788-0358, our 24-hour emergency line.

Daytona Beach’s Flood Damage Crew Talks About Containing Hazardous Substances

8/3/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Daytona Beach’s Flood Damage Crew Talks About Containing Hazardous Substances Backed Up Black Flood Waters? For Daytona Beach Call SERVPRO for Removal and Sanitation

Storms and Flooding Can Contaminate Homes in the Daytona Beach Area

If the living area of your house gets wet after the next storm strikes the Daytona Beach region, the water coming in from the outside could be contaminated. Bacteria and pollutants that exist outdoors can get into the water that comes inside due to a flood. Whenever excessive moisture affects a building, restoration professionals put the problem into a category based on how contaminated the water is. When the source of a water leak is clean water, it is considered a category one damage and is called clear water. Flood water is not considered clear. Water that leaks from a sink drain or comes into a home from the outside is not drinkable and is considered category 2 or grey water and may contain some level of contaminants. If a sewage line breaks or muddy water from the outside comes into a structure, then it is considered a category three situation and is called black water.

Any time you notice things inside your residence are wet after a storm, you are dealing with either grey rainwater or black water. When arriving at any flood damage job in Daytona Beach, our SERVPRO technicians immediately test the contamination level of the water that entered the building. If the water is considered black, then different procedures get taken to ensure the safety of the workers during the water removal and cleanup services.

In all cases of black water damage and some cases when grey water affects your contents and building materials, a containment chamber gets set up around the affected area. Building containment helps to keep in any hazardous substances so that they do not spread to unaffected areas of your house. These chambers also protect our SERVPRO technicians and any other occupants from exposure to contaminants.

Containing affected areas also helps manage airflow from clean to contaminated regions. According to industry professionals, the three types of containment are the source, local, and full scale. Source containment only gets isolated in the area close to the source of the damage. Local or mini containment blocks off a specific section of your home. Full-scale containment is when the air is contaminated in the entire house, and the whole building has to get contained. When this happens, an air scrubber is often set up to clean harmful particles out of the air.

If your residence ever floods after a storm, it is best to call our SERVPRO team right away. The longer contaminated grey or black water stays in your building materials and contents the worse the problems can get. Call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Negative Pressure Contains Mold Damage During Remediation In Ponce Inlet Properties

7/5/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Negative Pressure Contains Mold Damage During Remediation In Ponce Inlet Properties During the mold remediation process in a home, we take specific measures to protect the other areas of the house.

Mold Damage Remediation

During the mold remediation process in a home in Ponce Inlet, we take specific measures to protect the other areas of the house that do not contain overgrown regions of microbes. One of these techniques involves the use of negative air pressure. Hospitals and other healthcare facilities use this same method to contain pathogens to specific areas, keeping other locations in their buildings protected.

When SERVPRO remediates a residence in Ponce Inlet of mold damage and other microbial destruction, we make sure we use all the techniques available to stop the spread of microbes before, during, and after. Microbes do not require much moisture to grow out of control, so keeping it from spreading minimizes the chances of mold damage occurring in other locations inside your home. Even if you have moisture levels under control in other areas of your home, the release of spores can cause health effects.

To set up negative air pressure around the area that needs remediation, we use thick but clear vinyl sheeting around the area, completely enclosing it off from the rest of your home. We use an open window to exhaust the air in the room to the outdoors. This requires tubing attached to an air scrubber, pulling the air out of the place and forcing it outside. While air from the rest of your home might enter through tiny cracks here and there within the area we work in; this air cannot double back and take contamination to its original location.

After we finish removing and bagging up moldy materials, we can then take down the negative air pressure set up. However, many times we let the air scrubber run a little while longer, to also remove dust from the air that may still float around.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange wants to provide your family with a newly remediated home, so any problems with mold damage no longer exist. Contact us at (386) 788-0358 to see how we can protect your Harbor Oaks or Allandale home from future problems with overactive microbes.

Part of your emergency recovery plan may be how you deal with a potential halt of work. You can get insurance to help cover financial losses or rent a temporary workspace to reduce the downtime.
4. Inventory: Your fire emergency recovery plan should also include a list and pictures of all the equipment, records and property you have in your commercial building. Cleaning Fire Damage In Daytona Homes

6/25/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Cleaning Fire Damage In Daytona Homes Daytona house fires usually burn slowly and for only a short amount of time.

Cleaning Fire Damage

Daytona house fires usually burn slowly and for only a short amount of time. That limits the amount of damage from flames and heat but increases the amount of cleaning and restoration needed to eliminate or reduce the effects of odors.

Odors left by Daytona fire damage are not one single type caused by a single residue source. SERVPRO restoration teams know that every item which burns leaves behind a different type of residue and therefore, odor. Eliminating these odors is as important in returning home to a livable condition as removing burned property such as ceiling tiles or furniture.

For these multiple odors, we use multiple cleaning methods. Depending on the seriousness of the fire, it may not be possible to determine the exact source of every odor. Our teams have a deep inventory of tools, cleaning agents, and deodorizers, and they use them in three phases to eliminate odors.

Phase One is containment of the odors. The task here is to prevent more odor molecules from evaporating into the air. Our teams spray a chemical deodorizer with a pump-up sprayer on every affected surface that forms a barrier which slows down, and on some materials, stops evaporation. In a few cases, SERVPRO technicians spray burned or charred items to eliminate extremely pungent odors so other team members can demolish and remove the property without choking on the odors.

Phase Two is controlling existing vapors. Our restoration teams use counteragents to eliminate odor particles already in the air. They distribute containers of Instant Odor Counteractant Pellets designed to overcome the odors without becoming an overpowering nuisance themselves. Homeowners can even choose between cinnamon- or fruity-smelling agent.

Phase Three uses thermal fogging to eliminate odors. Our teams use this final phase on odors that have deeply penetrated furniture and structural property. In these cases, a spray cannot reach all of the odor particles, so technicians disperse deodorants through the heating element of a thermal fogger. The action breaks down the agent into particles the same size as the odor particle. In this state, the agent binds with and eliminates every odor particle it comes into contact with, regardless of the type of property.

If you have already cleaned up after fire damage, but have lingering odors, contact SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 today. We can help you finish the task and completely return your home to its original, odor-free condition.

Commercial Water Removal Experts In Daytona Discuss Moisture Issues In Offices

6/16/2018 (Permalink)

Commercial Commercial Water Removal Experts In Daytona Discuss Moisture Issues In Offices When Your Business Is Underwater in Daytona, Call SERVPRO for Water Removal and Restoration

Business Centers Often Rely on SERVPRO to Extract Water and Mitigate Damages in the Daytona Area

If water happens to leak into your Daytona office, many problems can take place if not dealt with immediately. The longer moisture stays inside a structure, the more likely materials can saturate and get ruined. When organic materials stay wet for longer than 48 hours, microbial growth can occur.

For avoiding problems with mold growth, it is essential to drop moisture levels of the building materials as quickly as possible. When working on commercial water removal in Daytona, extraction and rapid drying are two vital steps in restoration. Extraction gets completed using specialized vacuum equipment to suck up moisture. Rapid drying then takes place with advanced air moving and dehumidification systems.

Before any work begins, our SERVPRO restoration team inspects the affected area for safety hazards. Water leaks can cause drywall to fall or electrical fixtures to short out which can both create safety issues. If there are any hazards inside your office, we fix them if possible or block off the dangerous regions so that the building is safe for all occupants.

The next step is the planning process. During the planning stage, we determine what got damage and how our SERVPRO technicians can go about mitigating the issues. We know that reducing the loss of revenue to your company is essential and we plan our work procedures in ways that keep your business operating. We sometimes can schedule work during business after-hours or remove the water one section at a time, so your business can stay functioning as usual throughout the entire restoration process.

Once we determine the best method to remove the moisture inside your office in a short amount of time, we implement the suitable equipment for each particular situation. If there is an excessive amount of standing water, a sump pump gets used first to suck up the water and put it into a sewer drain. Next, heavy duty extraction equipment can get utilized to remove moisture from carpets and upholstery.

After as much water as possible gets vacuumed up, drying equipment then gets placed in the affected region. Air movers push air and create a counterclockwise circulation to speed up the evaporation of wet materials. Dehumidifiers are also set up so that they pull moisture out of the air and reduce the room's humidity.

In some cases, specialized drying equipment can be used to dry out specific things like drywall and hardwood floors. Any time you notice a water leak inside your office, call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 seven days a week.

We employ a broad range of cleaning and deodorizing techniques matched to the materials and the specific damage, often restoring items you believed ruined.

Other times charring, smoke, and soot affect fabrics severely, causing permanent damage and the continuous emission of harmful substances impossible to contain. SERVPRO crews then recommend disposal as the only responsible course. Our familiarity with the process and the skills of our production teams assure your confidence in our advice during a confusing and stressful time.

SERVPRO technicians also help evaluate the contents of your cupboards, pantry, refrigerators, and freezers after fire damage. If the fire occurred in or near the kitchen, the heat could compromise food safety even if cans and bottles remain sealed. Microbial activity can occur inside after exposure of the containers and contents to elevated temperatures. Smoke and soot infiltrate porous containers such as boxes and plastic bags. The particles in smoke can be tiny enough to penetrate past the rims of bottles and jars, contaminating the food and beverages inside.

The food inside a refrigerator or freezer can remain safe if the seal is secure. Additional considerations are whether the power was cut and for how long. More than four hours in our warm climate can elevate the temperature inside even a closed refrigerator above safe levels. SERVPRO technicians train to industry standards concerning these matters and assist homeowners in determining whether food is safe or needs to be thrown out after the fire.

A full-service restoration firm like SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange offers help with every aspect of fire damage recovery in your home including food and fabrics. Call us at (386) 788-0358 as soon as the firefighters release your property back to you.

Flood Waters Require Professional Extraction to Mitigate Damages--Call SERVPRO

As a homeowner in Daytona Beach, you are no stranger to the severe weather systems that can roll in from the Atlantic Ocean. While any one of these more significant storms could affect your home in disastrous ways, perhaps one of the most threatening of these would be the potential flooding that could result from storm damages to the exterior of your home.

While this kind of damage can present itself in several ways, most commonly high volumes of water can enter your home through vulnerabilities in the roof due to missing shingles or compromised siding covering your house. Once these points have gotten exposed, the torrential rains that come along with these severe systems have unabated access to flow into your home through this penetration point. Fortunately, our experienced SERVPRO professionals can help you combat the effects of this disaster and oversee water damage removal to your Daytona Beach residence.

From the moment that our technicians arrive at your home, we can begin inspecting the affected areas for both the immediate damage as well as the source of the problem you experience. Smaller access points that do not require reconstruction before our restoration process can begin we can board up or tarp over to alleviate the pressing threat of further damages to the area.

Restoring the water damage requires several types of equipment both to extract the water from the internal flood and to expedite the drying efforts throughout the affected area. The faster that this process can get accomplished, the less structural damage, reconstruction, or replacements need to occur to complete restoration successfully. We can coordinate the water removal and restoration with your insurance adjuster and help simplify your claims.

You might not always get as prepared as you might like to be for the severe weather that could affect your house, but when even the worst case scenario occurs, our technicians can help you through the mess to restore the damage. Daytona's Flood Damage Experts Give Structural Drying Information

4/18/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Daytona's Flood Damage Experts Give Structural Drying Information Irma and Tropical Storms Can Flood Homes in Daytona--Call SERVPRO for Water Extraction and Drying

Water Extraction and Moisture Removal Are Key Components of Flood Mitigation in Daytona

It does not happen very often, but it is a possibility that someday Daytona Beach can experience flooding conditions. If a severe tropical storm or hurricane blows into town, flooding of the area often occurs.

Severe thunderstorms, tropical depressions, and hurricanes all potentially cause water damage to take place on your property. SERVPRO's flood damage technicians in Daytona have much experience in structural drying and mitigating problems with moisture. Whether the problem with flooding is large or small, it is vital to remove any moisture inside your house as quickly as possible.

Whenever our SERVPRO restoration crew arrives at an emergency damage situation, we first secure the area and fix the problem at its source. We find where the water is entering the structure and take measures to keep the moisture out. Once rainwater stops entering the building, we can then begin extracting all of the moisture that entered your home as we can.

Flood insurance is a stress reducer as is the arrival of the SERVPRO Green Fleet. If the water coming in from the outside creates standing water that is more than two inches in depth, then we use submersible pumps to suck it up and export it into a sewer drain. After all of the deep, standing water inside your home is vacuumed up; we use specialized tools to extract water from building materials and contents. Our team has various extraction tools that get used on different materials such as carpet and upholstery. We have a wand for every situation.

Once our crew is satisfied that they have pulled out all of the water from your contents and materials that they can, we begin drying up the remaining moisture. When drying contents and materials, we use a combination of industrial fans or air movers and dehumidifiers to speed up the evaporation process. The heavy duty industrial fans create an air flow that pushes evaporated water coming off of the surfaces of contents and building materials to the center of the room where the dehumidifier pulls the water out of the air and releases it in liquid form.

Depending on the specific situation, we arrange the equipment the best way possible to drop moisture levels to preloss conditions. If you are ever in a tight spot and need help from the professionals after a storm, call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 any time.

Effects of Humidity Indoors

4/17/2018 (Permalink)

Water Damage Effects of Humidity Indoors Leaving water in your building can have undesired consequences.

There are several factors why controlling indoor humidity is important. In the South Daytona / Port Orange area the outdoor humidity is higher than most places U.S., making the use of A/C for controlling the indoor humidity extremely important. In our local a RH (relative humidity) of 60% or lower is what a building should maintain to prevent mold amplification which in turn can lead to mold damage or as some people refer to it as “black toxic mold". Controlling the indoor humidity can be especially important if a structure has been recently affected by water damage. In this situation after the water removal, the process would be to get the lower the humidity inside down below 60%. Usually this is done by using commercial dehumidifiers to remove the moisture from the air thus reducing the humidity.

When elevated humidity and/or water damage is not addressed in a timely and proper manner a building will typically suffer from additional damage by causing cracking, swelling or warping. When a structure becomes wet soon after the evaporation process begins and the humidity rises and secondary damage will result from the migration of the moisture from the affected materials to the unaffected materials until equilibrium is achieved. This will lead to a repair process will become more extensive resulting in previously unneeded repairs and increased costs as well as potentially hazardous microbial growth. It’s always a good idea to call an expert like SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange for assistance when dealing with water damage, fire damage and mold removal. What You Should Do When You Find Mold Growing Around Your Bathtub Piping

4/8/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation What You Should Do When You Find Mold Growing Around Your Bathtub Piping Mold in the bathroom has plenty of access to moisture. Should you see or smell mold in your bathroom, contact SERVPRO.

Team SERVPRO Locates Mold Whether It is Out in the Open or Hidden Behind Walls

It is a fact that excessive moisture can cause mold damage. As it is, your bathroom is a place where water can be freely used every day. Your bathtub or sink is where that water usually flows, and those materials are meant to be in contact with it. However, behind your tub and inside your walls, a leaking pipe can cause mold to spread and grow out of control. Fortunately, there is professional help nearby that can assist with your growing mold infestation.

The structure of your residence can become weakened by the damaging mold in Ponce Inlet. Unlike your bathtub, the wooden materials behind it are not meant to come in contact with water. Mold is so damaging to wood because it eats away and rots organic material.

SERVPRO can send qualified technicians to your home. We can inspect the mold damage and then section off the infected area to prevent spores from spreading; agitating the mold puts the spores airborne again, and it is essential not to allow them to spread. We can tear out the porous materials the mold has invaded behind your tub and help you find a contractor who can fix the structure and a plumber to fix the leak.

Afterward, our technicians can take steps to prevent mold damage in the future. An antifungal agent can be thoroughly sprayed to ensure that all the spores in the area are killed. Spraying the agent between the wall cavity can help reduce the chances of mold growing again.

SERVPRO knows that mold can often leave a musty smell behind. We can use advanced technology like air scrubbers that have activated carbon filters. The filters absorb the air, odors and all, filter them out, and then release clean and fresh air. We strive to make sure that you feel "Like it never even happened."

When mold damage strikes your residence, do not wait. Call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358. Day or night, we can take your call and send our technicians to begin the remediation process as soon as possible.

Why Speed And Professional Help Is Crucial For Daytona Fire Damage

Fire Damage Why Speed And Professional Help Is Crucial For Daytona Fire Damage SERVPRO Is the Solution Provider for Fire and Smoke Damage and Odor Cleanup in Daytona

SERVPRO Explains the Need for Professional Grade Odor Removal After a House Fire

Residents of Daytona count themselves fortunate if they never need to react to a fire in their home. Because this type of disaster is not a common occurrence homeowners may not know how important it is to respond promptly even to what seems like minor fire damage. We stand by you ready to help day or night.

Many fire damage scenarios in Daytona begin in the kitchen. A pot boils dry or oil spills and ignites. If the cook is nearby and the home is equipped with a charged fire extinguisher, the crisis seems averted. With an application of a little elbow grease all traces of the fire are gone, or so it seems. Days or weeks later the homeowner may notice what we know is progressive smoke and soot damage. Odors linger. Fabrics and paint yellow. Metals tarnish, and glass etches.

Unfortunately for a committed do-it-yourselfer, fire damage restoration can become very tricky. If you use forced air heat or cooling and a vent was open during the fire, smoke and soot migrate far from the kitchen into bedrooms, living and dining areas, and other spaces in your home. The residue from fire damage is acidic and begins to attack items and surfaces within minutes. When it is not cleaned away properly, soot continues to destroy materials. SERVPRO technicians possess the knowledge and skills to stop the damage fire residues, and the sooner we are on the scene working to halt the harm the better.

SERVPRO fire damage remediation work crews evaluate every space in your home for evidence of soot and smoke infiltration. Healthy IAQ indoor air quality is crucial. We match the type of residue to tools and products that clear the residues permanently. Loose coatings vacuum or dry sponge away. Protein-based soot may need solvents as they form a lacquer-like coating. Slow burns create dark, sticky deposits that can require agitation or abrasive cleaners or equipment. Intricate objects like chandeliers might need immersion cleaning or even an ultrasonic treatment.

Fire damage is the precursor to tenacious smoky odors. Because they were launched into the air during combustion, the odiferous particles are tiny and often extremely unpleasant. Smells from charred wood and melted plastic stick around even after the damaged structures and objects are discarded. No effective household solution exists that rids your indoor atmosphere of the particles. Sprays and solid deodorizers are ineffective. SERVPRO employs cutting-edge technologies like thermal foggers and hydroxyl generators to seek out and neutralize the molecules causing the odor. Whether in the air or buried deeply into furnishings when they are found and disarmed by innovative odor removal devices the smell is gone forever.

Give SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange a call at (386) 788-0358 after any fire event in your home. Our experienced fire damage technicians bring years of fire damage remediation success and new but proven solutions to your home, making it “Like it never even happened.”

How Your Home Might Suffer from Water Damage in Daytona Beach

3/10/2018 (Permalink)

Water Damage How Your Home Might Suffer from Water Damage in Daytona Beach Water damage can cause furniture to become musty-smelling or lose its varnish or other finishes.

Rely on SERVPRO if You Experience Water Damage in Your Home

Although we need water to sustain ourselves and keep us healthy, when it ends up in unexpected places in a Daytona Beach residence, it can create some unexpected changes when it comes into contact with materials inside your home. Some materials show the damage they suffer almost immediately, but others hide the problem more easily.

When your Daytona Beach home suffers from water damage, it can come from any source and affect any material. Sometimes water comes from within your home because of a forgotten tub or a broken ice water line, while other times, storms create problems, instead. The friendly professionals at SERVPRO have experience in jobs of all sizes and can help you restore your home.

Floors. Your home's floors sustain the most damage when a water pipe breaks and water comes spraying out under high pressure. Absorbing a great deal of this as water sits on top, floorboards can swell and crack, and the glue in carpet padding can disintegrate, causing a horrific mess. At SERVPRO, we restore floors for our customers using methods based on their specific needs. When called immediately after the incident, we can often save carpeting by elevating the carpet so we can force air underneath. We also use forced heat and extraction units mounted on special drying mats to rescue hardwood floors.

Holes in your home's roof. Both pests and damage from tree limbs can create openings in your roof where rainfall can enter. Insulation in the area can become sodden with moisture and then compressed, significantly decreasing its R-factor. Even if pests did not exist in the area before the damage, because of the presence of water and the availability of bedding for their young, many types of vermin might find a home's upper portion very inviting. We can get such ruined insulation cleaned up and temporarily patched up until roofing specialists complete the needed repairs.

Walls, inside and out. When walls absorb water, unique wall coverings like stucco, textured spackling, or cork can begin falling apart. Whenever we encounter such surfaces, we use machinery that increases airflow and heat the air, which can help save the interior walls in a home. At times, small openings help circulate air in and through the interior spaces of walls, drying them out from the inside, also.

Furniture can also suffer damage. Increased moisture inside a home from any source can affect your furniture. Upholstered furniture can become musty-smelling or exhibit signs of losing its varnish or other finish on the wooden components. Deep-cleaning these items can help restore them, but when pressing problems exist, our Upholstery and Fabric Cleaning Technician (UFT) provides furnishings with the care they need.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange wants to help homeowners in our area restore their home after water damage. Residents in the Harbor Oaks, Wilbur-by-the-Sea, and other nearby communities can call our 24-hour service line at (386) 788-0358 to receive answers to their questions about how we can help restore their homes "Like it never even happened."

Mold Testing and Remediation in Port Orange

2/26/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Mold Testing and Remediation in Port Orange Mold Growth on a Wall in Port Orange Means a Direct Call to SERVPRO for Remediation

Trust SERVPRO for Professional Mold Remediation

In 2010, the Florida Legislature passed a new law (SB2234) to regulate the Mold Inspection and Mold Remediation Industry in Port Orange and other cities across the state. Before this, some businesses that engaged in both assessment, or testing, and remediation and removal of mold were taking advantage of customers.

As an example, one of these businesses performed a mold test in a Port Orange home that was certain to come up positive. The owner or an employee used the false positive to strong-arm homeowners into using their company to remove the mold, often starting that same day to begin immediately charging cleaning and removal fees. Once demolition and removal of property begin, this can mean thousands of dollars in repair and replacement costs alone. The new regulations prevent this, and every SERVPRO office works hard to follow and support them. We are firmly committed to no "Double-Dipping."

Today, a company that is licensed to perform mold assessment testing cannot even be licensed to perform mold remediation. The differences are defined by SB2234:

Mold assessment testing is the process, performed or supervised by a mold assessor, which includes taking physical samples and gathering detailed information on a building's history to determine the location, origin, and extent of any mold growth with an area greater than ten feet square. The assessor also determines the specific type of mold, when possible or indeed, even applicable to the discovery.

Mold remediation refers to the process of cleaning, demolition, removal, and sanitization of mold or mold-contaminated structural and personal property greater than ten square feet not purposefully grown at that location by a mold remediator. In our case, this means a trained and experienced SERVPRO Mold Remediation Team.

Additionally, every assessment and remediation business must also maintain at least a one million dollar insurance policy of general liability coverage. The policy is in case of errors in testing or damage not related to remediation. Each licensed business is listed in the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation website so customers can verify their authorization to work before hiring them.

Mold can be a threat to any home. If you suspect you have a mold problem, find a licensed mold assessor to test your residence. If it comes back positive or if you already see mold growing under a sink or any area of your home or business, call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 today.

Daytona's Expert Flood Damage Team

2/20/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Daytona's Expert Flood Damage Team The amount of water damage caused to a property depends on how much water pours into it.

Flood Damage

Spring is on its way and with the change of the season comes an increased amount of rainfall. When the rain comes down, it is possible that it damages your Daytona townhome. Rainstorms can cause damage to property by either flooding the area or putting holes in the structure.

Sometimes wind coming from a storm blows rocks and other objects into your home creating a hole in your townhouse. If your home gets a hole put into it during a storm, it is smart to call SERVPRO's flood damage specialists in Daytona. If a rock breaks a window, rainwater quickly makes its way into your home.

The amount of water damage caused to a property depends on how much water pours into it. The first step SERVPRO's restoration team completes is the extraction process. After all of the standing water in the room is vacuumed up, building materials either get removed or saved by the drying process. The size and severity of the damaged area will determine whether building materials get dried out or removed.

Once the water damage problem is mitigated, the last step is the final cleaning process. It is crucial for us to finish a job making the area as clean as possible when we are done. When cleaning a building, there are three levels that determine how clean the area is.

The three levels of clean that exist are sterile, disinfected and sanitary. If cleaning gets completed with proper equipment and techniques, then sanitary is the first level of cleanliness an area reaches. If something is sanitary, then soils and contaminants are removed to the point where general health is protected.

The disinfected level gets reached when 99% of all the soils and contaminants get removed or made safe for general human health. In most flood damage scenarios our crew makes sure the damaged room gets disinfected so that dangerous viruses and bacteria cannot grow. The sterile level gets reached when 100% of things dangerous to humans get removed. Sterilization only gets done in specific areas such as hospital rooms.

How clean the damaged room is when the job gets done makes all of the difference between a great job and a poor job. To get the best final results with your water damage problems, it is best to call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 for 24/7 assistance.

Cleaning and Eliminating Fire Damage To Daytona Beach Homes

2/15/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Cleaning and Eliminating Fire Damage To Daytona Beach Homes Smoke Cleanup from Ceilings in Daytona Beach Requires Professional Help--Call SERVPRO

SERVPRO Advises that an Assessment of Damage After a Fire Is Crucial to a Professional Cleanup and Restoration

Brush fire season for Daytona Beach and the rest of Florida started in December. Now, we are at the peak time for what can be the source of a very bad day for homeowners.

Much of the fire damage to Daytona Beach homes comes from those materials consumed by the flames either completely or partially. Further damage is the result of the smoke generated by the heat of the burning structural and personal property. Still, more damage results from first responders trying to put out the fire. SERVPRO response teams are trained and have extensive experience in dealing with all of it.

Most of the fire damage comes from smoke, however. Specifically, the smoke residues left on surfaces after extinguishing the fire. We inspect every home to determine the level of residue damage, so we know which methods, tools, and cleaning agents to use in each home.

Minor Damage - Smoke residues do not affect the entire home at this level, just a couple of rooms and any connecting hallways. We consider this amount of damage to be light-to-moderate. Our primary method of cleaning is Dry, which means that we can remove most residues from ceilings, floors, and personal property with dry sponges or cloths.

Our SERVPRO IICRC certified techs prefer the Dry method whenever possible, to prevent applying more liquid to surfaces that may already have some moisture-related damage. If we need to use Wet methods, we apply cleaning agents sparingly with cloths and sponges, wiping down surfaces carefully. We can eliminate most minor smoke odors with these basic cleaning methods, and while a minor amount of repainting may be necessary, little property other than papers and books needs replacing.

Medium Damage - Here, the residue levels begin at moderate and cover a larger number of rooms, but not the whole house. Most surfaces require Wet cleaning, and a significant amount of property may require disposal and replacement. Odors are stronger at this level, but SERVPRO technicians can remove them with specialized deodorization chemicals. More structural property needs repainting, and wooden surfaces such as cabinets and floors may need to be stripped and refinished.

Major Damage - The heat is so intense at this level, any residues left are on damage framing and other structural property that has to be removed and replaced, so attempting to clean them is a waste of time and effort. Smoke odors here are so strong that we need to use ozone generators to help eliminate them from home. Also, hydroxyl generators and thermal fogging mitigate and reduce to near zero any odorous remnants within the structure. We can restore personal property not damaged by heat or flames, but it may be necessary to clean it at our offices and not at home.

Cleaning and restoring your home after any disaster is not a fast procedure, but it needs to begin as quickly as possible. If you have any smoke or another type of fire damage, call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 today. We are here for you.

Understanding the Factors That Affect Water Removal from Your Daytona Commercial Property

2/1/2018 (Permalink)

Commercial Understanding the Factors That Affect Water Removal from Your Daytona Commercial Property The amount of water in your space will determine the drying time, standing water is more easily removed than residual moisture.

Allow the Professionals at SERVPRO to Properly Restore Your Commercial Space after Water Damage

Water damage is never good for your business. Water damage can cripple any business whether it is a restaurant, a clothing store or any other enterprise. It is crucial to remove the water as soon as possible to get your business up and running.

The time and money required to efficiently remove water as well as residual moisture from your Daytona store depend on several factors. SERVPRO professionals can use these factors to create conditions for fast and efficient water removal.

Temperature

The temperature of the environment is one of the most critical factors that can affect the rate of drying. The rate of drying is highest when the temperature of the affected areas is kept between 70 to 80 degrees. If the temperatures are kept above 85 degrees, there is a chance of secondary damage as the air may contain too much moisture. Our technicians can closely monitor the temperature and use portable heaters to heat your establishment to speed up the drying process.

Amount of Water to be Removed

Drying times depend on the amount and type of moisture present. Standing water is easier to remove compared to the residual moisture. SERVPRO professionals use extractors to remove water and dehumidifiers to remove residual moisture.

Humidity

Relative humidity also affects the rate of drying. If the Relative Humidity (RH) is above 60%, the drying rates slow down significantly. Maintaining a low RH is crucial for the elimination of residual moisture. Our technicians can use dehumidifying equipment, that can remove moisture from the air, to create conditions of low RH to facilitate rapid drying.

Air Movement

Replacing the damp, wet air with drier air can significantly improve the rate of drying. Air movers are equipment that performs precisely this function. These are high capacity fans, that can replace the moist air with a drier air that speeds up the process of drying.

Our IICRC certified technicians can use a knowledge of all these factors to create conditions that ensure rapid and efficient drying of your commercial property.

Mold Remediation for Your Humid Daytona Residence

1/17/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Mold Remediation for Your Humid Daytona Residence Year-round moisture in Daytona makes for perfect conditions for mold to grow inside homes.

Call SERVPRO at the First Sign of Mold Damage

Daytona might be known for a lot of great things, but its thick and humid air is not one of them. What you might not realize about this almost year-round moisture lingering in the air, is that it can vastly affect the interior of your home if it is not adequately regulated. Given that the temperature is favorable or hot throughout the year, coupled with the present moisture in the air, you have met the conditions necessary to grow mold.

Contrary to popular belief, mold damage can occur in Daytona homes because of thick humidity in the air. Often, when people think of mold, they consider some dark cellar that overwhelms you with a musty smell that indicates mold colonies growing in the area. That is not how it always presents itself in your home, however. You should be vigilant about reducing the moisture in the air inside your home and regularly checking for any indications of growth on surfaces like your drywall.

If you have already discovered some, do not buy into the myth that this is an easy fix for you the homeowner. Often, DIY methods are not direct or concentrated enough to affect the entire fungal organism, and so parts of the mold colony remain below the surface that you can see. The remaining colony merely sprout back, and the spores continue to spread to nearby areas and make the problem even worse than it initially had been.

Our SERVPRO remediation specialists are IICRC certified and experienced in removing colonies from all varieties of mold that could grow in your home. Using sophisticated equipment like scrubbers fitted with HEPA filters, our team can successfully remove the entire mold hyphae. Dehumidification along with containment of the spores prevents the spread of the colony through the remediation process. This dehumidification is an effort that you get encouraged to continue following the completion of our work.

Mold in your home can cause health effects, so it is nothing to leave alone to grow and thrive. Call our experienced, certified remediation specialists to help you reclaim your home. You can reach our team at SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange any time at (386) 788-0358.

Water Damage After a Fire in Your Daytona Home

1/12/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Water Damage After a Fire in Your Daytona Home Regardless of whether you have fire, water or mold damage, contact SERVPRO for remediation efforts right after an event occurs.

Team SERVPRO Fully Knows That Remediating Fire Damage Always Involves Simultaneously Dealing with Water Damage

Your Daytona home might seem humid and damp many times throughout the year, but it can also be an easy target for fires under the right conditions. With so many homes throughout the area being so close to one another, a substantial blaze in one house can quickly affect the others nearby with just a moderate breeze. Firefighting teams throughout the region know all too well about fighting multiple structure fires on the same block on account of this phenomenon.

What this means for you, is that even if you are incredibly diligent in fire prevention methods and protocols, your home could still suffer fire damages in Daytona. Typically, when this secondary blaze to your home would occur, firefighting efforts are well underway, and officials are acutely aware of the apparent spread of the flames to neighboring properties. Ultimately, the damage that your home would sustain in a situation like this would be minor in comparison to the fire your damage derived from, but would still require professional restoration efforts nonetheless.

Our SERVPRO restoration specialists can assess the full extent of the damage to the affected area of your home and walk you through the process of how the mess is officially cleaned up. With small affected areas, which is often the case for neighboring properties, some of the most significant lingering concerns fall with the water damage resulting from the extinguishing of the fire.

Depending on the severity of this water damage, our SERVPRO professionals have a range of equipment and broad expertise to extract the water and get a better look at any lasting damages that might have resulted from it. The restoration of water damage begins by fully extracting all of the water from the affected area with pumps and wet-vacs, and setting up dehumidification equipment and air movers to dry it all up.

A full assessment of any other conditions directs our experienced team to any other services to provide to bring your home back to preloss conditions. If you are dealing with any manner of fire damage to your home, do not hesitate to call the experienced staff we have at SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange. You can reach our emergency response team anytime at (386) 788-0358.

Remediating Water Damage in Daytona

Water Damage Remediating Water Damage in Daytona SERVPRO Restores Water Damaged Floorings in Daytona

SERVPRO Uses Many Technologies for Water and Moisture Removal

Daytona homes were spared the worst of the weather this year, but that does not eliminate flooding. Even in a year like 2017, most of the damage to Florida homes came from more everyday sources such as a leaking pipe or a failed dishwasher or other appliance.

As we all know by now, water damage in Daytona homes can be severe unless a homeowner moves quickly to have excess water removed and her property swiftly dried. SERVPRO offices know that regardless of the source of water, a home in distress is at risk for further damage and some actions have to be immediately taken after we arrive.

First, we secure your home. Every action here is to prevent further loss and includes much more than boarding up windows and doors. Our technicians determine the source of the leak and either block or turn off the water into the home. We also check for weakened or collapsing floors and any electrical hazards that might be present. Even in a large home, this usually takes only an afternoon.

Once we identify the problems, we remove any water in the home. For amounts over two inches in depth, we use commercial grade pumps. For smaller levels, we bring in extraction wands that function as an industrial grade water-vac. After we remove the visible water, one of our inspectors examines behind walls, under floors, and in carpets for any trapped moisture.

Our next step is to remove that moisture. Technicians use the same extraction wands to draw water from carpets and between floorboards after we adjust the devices to a lower setting to prevent any secondary damage. If there is a pad under the carpet, we remove and dispose of it.

Now that it is dry, we examine the carpet for damage. Our concerns are for damaged seams, delamination or separation of the back of the carpet, and mold. If we have removed the water quickly enough, the damage is usually very minor. In most cases, SERVPRO ICCRC certified restoration specialists could repair the carpets, lay them on a new pad, and then stretch them back into place. If we find mold, our normal recommendation is to replace the carpet.

Our final action is to dry the rest of the home. By removing the water earlier, we prevented the immediate loss of building material, but it is still necessary to drywall panels and floor trim to stop both mold and wood rot. We use dehumidifiers to draw moisture from the air and air movers to direct warm, dry air across surfaces to force out moisture without causing any further damage.

Preserving the integrity of your home and property is more than a job for us here at SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange. We are locally owned and understand that each customer is also one of our neighbors. If you need our help, call us today at (386) 788-0358.

Commercial Don't Lose Money From Water Damage To Your Daytona Beach Hotel If you have air conditioners in your hotel that go on the fritz causing water damages, give SERVPRO a call.

Water Damage To Your Hotel

Daytona Beach has its critical peak seasons, as any other tourist destination in the country does. Whether it is bike week, racing or beach season, your area hotel has to be running at its optimal levels. The heat through these critical times of the year is unbearable at times, so guests rely heavily on the provided air conditioning units in the room that you offer them. When these units fail, they often unload all of the trapped water inside of the unit, which can cause a significant amount damage if not dealt with quickly.

While this might instantaneously make this particular room unrentable to guests, for the time being, that is not even the worst of the potential problems that could result from the incident. With adjoining rooms, or areas below the water damage to your Daytona Beach hotel room, you have a high possibility of the damage spreading and affecting even more guests.

To mitigate your loss of profits and to keep adjoining rooms from being damaged as well, you are going to need to act quickly. Our SERVPRO team is available any time of the day or night to help resolve your problem. With every night that you are unable to occupy a damaged room, you are losing money, and our team can appreciate the severity of the situation and work quickly to restore the area so that it can be reopened.

With air conditioning malfunctions like this, you have one single volume of water that unloads onto the floor of the room, and that is it. Restoring this damage involves our SERVPRO team using wet vacs to pull the water from the carpeting or flooring and using air movers to dry out the damage thoroughly. Assessment of the damage is the next step, ensuring that more restoration efforts are not needed to make the room ready for guests again.

Whether it is the peak season or not, it never advisable to sit on a problem like this for very long. If you have air conditioners in your hotel that go on the fritz causing water damages, give SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange a call. We can be reached anytime at (386) 788-0358.

Fire Damage Risk Greatest for Daytona Homes During the Holiday Season

Fire Damage Fire Damage Risk Greatest for Daytona Homes During the Holiday Season SERVPRO Says Holiday Fire Damage in Daytona Is Common--Be Careful

Smoke Smells in Daytona Are Not Wanted--Call SERVPRO

During the holiday months of November and December, homes in Daytona experience an increased risk of fire damage. Many homeowners use decorations during this time to beautify their homes. Electric lights, candles, and other items come together to create stunning displays.

When these items in a Daytona home malfunction, fire damage can result. A fire might remain isolated in one area, but the smoke can spread widely throughout your home. As it floats through your home, it adheres to anything it touches. On absorbent materials, the particles in the soot begin to penetrate.

SERVPRO technicians know that even surfaces that look clean on the outside can hide soot on the inside. Our Odor Control Technician (OCT) works with our Fire and Smoke Restoration Technicians (FSRT) to ensure that we eliminate fire damage at every level and stage affecting your home. Smelling ongoing smoke odors can seriously undermine having a home with no visible traces of the fire. Both aspects require mitigation and skilled professionals who have the experience to work with you until you become satisfied with the results.

At SERVPRO, we take it very seriously when a home suffers fire damage. We know that hidden problems often exist, and know that these can surface later when you least expect them. We can help eliminate these before they become problematic for your family. One such problem is that with increased humidity and warmth, such as in the summer, areas that seemed free of odors once again begin to produce odors after a mid-winter fire. This is because the remaining particles become more active in heat and elevated humidity. We can help ensure that these areas receive additional care, so they revert to a non-odorous state again.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange wants to help the area's families enjoy their homes year-round. Because of this, our number, (386) 788-0358, is always answered, day or night, every day of the year. Emergencies never follow a schedule and can happen at any time. Call us for all your smoke and fire damage needs, and we can begin mitigation quickly, so your home looks “Like it never even happened.”

Mold Damage Cleanup in Your Daytona Beach Home

11/14/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Mold Damage Cleanup in Your Daytona Beach Home Call SERVPRO for Mold Remediation in Your Daytona Beach Condo

SERVPRO Can Provide Safe Mold Remediation to Your Property

Mold can be quite the nightmare to homeowners in Daytona Beach. It can cause health effects to you and your family and cause much damage to your home. Controlling your indoor climate, using dehumidifiers, and making sure your AC is the appropriate size for your house are just a few of the things you can do to help prevent mold growth.

When mold and mold damage still strike in your Daytona Beach home, it is imperative that you move quickly to take care of it. Mold can spread throughout your home quickly to other surfaces. It is not enough to just clean up the mold. The problem that caused it in the first place needs to be taken care of, and the affected area should be sanitized. SERVPRO can take care of all of this for you, as we have the knowledge and tools that are needed.

Whenever SERVPRO technicians work in contaminated environments, including mold, we wear personal protective equipment, which includes full-body suits with hoods, latex and rubber gloves, and eye protection such as goggles or full-face masks. We may also wear full or half-face respirators or even powered air-purifying respirators which supply air to a full-face mask. None of our staff begin working on a mold remediation project before they have the proper safety training and are comfortable with the information. Smaller infestations may require only minimal PPE during the remediation process.

The method used to clean mold depends on the kind of surface it is on. Nonporous materials can usually be wiped and cleaned, but porous materials with visible growth must many times be removed and discarded (an example being drywall.)

Many times, HEPA filtered vacuuming, and damp wiping can remove invisible mold spores and organisms which have settled, even when on porous materials. The structure and contents are then dried to stop any more growth. Dehumidifiers do not have much airflow and can be used during the containment and removal procedures.

At SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach/Port Orange, we take mold damage seriously and follow all necessary steps to clean up the mold thoroughly after fixing the moisture problem. We end with sanitizing the area in your home in Port Orange, Daytona Beach, or Harbor Oaks when you call us at (386) 788-0358.

Residents in Daytona Beach are still cleaning up after the latest hurricanes. Estimates regarding the length of time for complete recovery varies considerably, depending on the level of harm. Homes and their safety levels are much easier to attain than the economic recovery of the same area.

As homeowners in Daytona clean out debris and other types of hurricane damage affecting their properties, many find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer amount of hazards present in their own homes. These hazards come in many forms and can create different kinds of problems for the individuals who suffer them. Sharp objects can puncture the skin, and this can lead to severe infections.

The Centers for Disease Control

list several items needed to safely perform cleanup activities after disastrous hurricanes sweep through an area. However, after the financial strain that many families experience immediately after a hurricane, purchasing all of the recommended items can become quite expensive, even if they are available for purchase. Additionally, the heat, occasionally sporadic electric power, and massive labor requirements quickly make cleaning up nearly impossible in many situations. Being inexperienced and without the proper tools easily backfires on many homeowners while performing cleanup tasks. We can help.

SERVPRO - Commercial Water Removal in Daytona Beach Hotels

Commercial SERVPRO - Commercial Water Removal in Daytona Beach Hotels SERVPRO of Daytona Beach / Port Orange will work around the clock until your commercial property is restored.

Daytona Beach Hotels Can Receive Water Removal Services Provided By SERVPRO

Recent storms did not affect Daytona Beach as severely as the western part of Florida. Our area was fortunate, but that does not mean area businesses do not have to worry about water-related disasters. Broken intake lines, failing appliances, and clogged drains can spill just as much water across conference room floors and down hallways as a hurricane.

Commercial water removal in a Daytona Beach hotel usually means two tasks for SERVPRO response teams. We pull water from carpets before they rot and pump water out of utility basements.

Basements are usually the more straightforward task. As long as the utility room is safe for our technicians, we can pump out any standing water within a few hours. If the power was shut off, we bring in a commercial grade generator from our inventory to provide uninterrupted power until we complete the job.

More difficult is drawing out water and trapped moisture from carpets. The task is less complicated than in a private residence since hotel carpeting rarely has a carpet pad underneath. The process takes longer, of course, due to the vast number of rooms and hallways compared to a house. SERVPRO teams begin by opening every door and window in as many rooms and halls as possible. Then, we install box fans to bring in dry, outside air to replace the colder, damp air drawn out by exhaust fans at crucial exit points.

Next, we use extraction wands to lift water from the carpet. These devices are designed to remove water without harming the individual threads of the nape. Technicians inspect each carpet for damage and other signs that water may have gotten underneath them. If necessary, we use space heaters and dehumidifiers to augment the wands and speed up the process by carefully drying the carpet and remove moisture directly from the surrounding air.

Heavy Rains Can Cause Flood Damage to Daytona Beach Homes

10/13/2017 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Heavy Rains Can Cause Flood Damage to Daytona Beach Homes Our SERVPRO team is available 24/7 to restore your Daytona Beach flood damage.

SERVPRO Can Restore Your Daytona Beach Home From Flood Damage

Heavy rains in Daytona Beach are a frequent occurrence that occasionally leads to flooding in the area. Homeowners are encouraged to protect their homes in the face of these emergencies, which can lead to immense property damage. There is no "one size fits all" method of measuring the risk of flooding in your location, so it is important to take precautions whether or not your house is close to water.

Given the unpredictable nature of storms, heavy rains, and floods, it is essential to have a reliable restoration company on standby. At SERVPRO, we are dedicated to controlling any type of flood damage caused by a weather event in Daytona Beach. We are a locally-based and operated business, which makes us a part of your community too! Our technicians are professionally trained and certified by the IICRC, thereby ensuring that our methods are up to scratch with industry standards.

Your roof plays a major role in preventing flood damage. Check for soft spots, loose shingles, and surface divots that may be vulnerable to rough weather conditions. One crack in the roof can cause water leakage and, subsequently, internal damage to your walls and ceilings.

To minimize water damage on your foundation, SERVPRO technicians can help you install a proper gutter system. It is important to keep your gutters clean to prevent clogging and, consequently, water overflow. Our flood damage restoration experts can recommend special products for keeping your gutters free of debris. Gutters keep rainwater from running down the walls of your house.

Installing a rainwater catchment system can also help reduce the impact of flood damage. Ideally, the rainwater moves from the gutter to the downspout and then pours into the barrel or tank. Here, the water can serve for seasonal or irrigation purposes. The type of rainwater collector you use depends on what you need it for.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

Flood damage from heavy rainfalls can be costly to your home. If you find yourself on the wrong side of a heavy storm, SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange is here to help. We have a stock of resources that can reverse your property to preloss conditions as quickly as possible, "Like it never even happened." Call us anytime at (386) 788-0358.

Water Damage Fast Water Removal in Daytona with Cutting-Edge Equipment Drips Lead to Daytona Area Water Damage--Call SERVPRO

SERVPRO Arrives with the Crews Swiftly to Extract Water from YOur Daytona Property

As a homeowner, seeing standing water in your house when you arrive home from a vacation is a nightmare. What happened?! Based on their experience, our SERVPRO techs say the problem often starts with a water heater past its prime. A tiny crack in the appliance, a leaky hose, a rusting interior, all can cause excess moisture and flooding.

The typical lifespan of most water heaters is 8 to 12 years. After that, homeowners take a risk with each passing year. The appliance is a complex system of metal, hoses, and wires. Once rust gets in, it causes elements to deteriorate. As components weaken, excess moisture escapes and the water heater releases more and more water. Drip by drip, your basement floods. Water removal in Daytona is the first step to fixing the problem and getting your home back to normal.

The team at SERVPRO has specialized equipment to remove standing water quickly and efficiently. We know first hand the damage that flooding causes. It ruins carpets, destroys electrical equipment, and encourages mold and mildew to grow in your boxes of stored possessions. That is why we start our cleanup by bringing in industrial strength pumps, air movers, and dehumidifiers. We concentrate on extracting as much water as possible, then set up the air movers and dehumidifiers to speed moisture evaporation.

We follow the standards and best practices determined by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification, respected throughout the field. After training, we receive certification in a range of services, including water damage restoration, odor control, microbial remediation, and drying.

What does this mean for you? SERVPRO experts quickly get rid of the water and moisture and then move on to cleaning and restoration. We use advanced cleaning agents that remove residue and sanitize the surfaces of the affected area. Soon your home is ready once again for your daily activities.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange is here to help—24/7--with water removal and other emergencies, (386) 788-0358. We are centrally located to serve South Daytona, Daytona Beach, and Harbor Oaks.

Our Technicians Determine the Cause of the Mold Infestation Before Remediation

Depending on the kind of material mold takes hold of, various types exist. In other words, the mold that develops on the concrete or masonry surfaces on your Daytona Beach property is an entirely different species than the mold that forms on your walls, plastic, or metallic surfaces.

However, regardless of the amount or type that creates mold damage in your Daytona Beach area home, treatment remains the same. A qualified mold remediation specialist never looks at the species of mold in your home. They should instead, be looking for ways to make your home safe for you to live in again.

Mold only needs three factors present to grow, water, food, and air. When even one is missing, mold can sit dormant for weeks, waiting for the right conditions exist. With that said, a qualified mold remediation company, like SERVPRO, is likely to look for the source of water intrusion causing the problem, before attempting to mitigate any damage that might exist.

After locating the source causing the problem, SERVPRO technicians perform any necessary repairs and then move on to contain the spread. We use plastic sheeting to contain the infected area and position negative airflow machines to help capture airborne spores. Any saturated materials removed during your remediation process are placed in sealed bags while transporting and disposing of these materials is based on local, state, and federal guidelines.

SERVPRO technicians clean and disinfect the entire area before installing new, making sure to maintain a clean, safe environment for anyone entering or exiting the area. We use personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, boots, and full-body suits if necessary. It depends on the amount of exposure present and how large the affected area is.

As we move into the final stages of your remediation, everything is cleaned and sanitized again to ensure cleanliness before finishing touches are made to return your home to normal. We check the air for spores several times throughout the process and even give you various tips on how to prevent future problems.

Drying Basements and Crawlspaces Affected by Flood Damage in Daytona Beach After a Storm

Storm Damage Drying Basements and Crawlspaces Affected by Flood Damage in Daytona Beach After a Storm Storm Related Water Damage in Daytona Beach Basements and Crawlspaces Get Help from SERVPRO

SERVPRO Reduces Flooding with Fast Service and Superior Products

When a storm comes knocking, the resultant floodwater can seep into the foundation of your home and compromise its structural integrity. Staying in such a home in Daytona Beach is dangerous as it presents numerous safety hazards. Additionally, wet and damp furniture, walls, furnishings, and carpets offer the ideal environment for mold and mildew to thrive. To return the house to preloss conditions, every inch of the house must be checked thoroughly for dampness and then dried where necessary.

If you find yourself in a flood damage situation in Daytona Beach after a storm, SERVPRO can help restore your possessions. Our technicians have the knowledge and expertise to deal with all types of water damage, whether big or small. We are there to relieve you of the stress of cleaning and returning your items to their original state, "Like it never even happened." Acting fast to extract the water and dry the structure is necessary to minimize the damage and reduce repair or replacement costs.

First things first: safety. Water damage in the basement or crawlspace comes with numerous environmental hazards, including structural, electrical, and various other hazardous materials. Since water conducts electricity, the first action is to check the power distribution box and then switch off all circuit breakers leading to the sub-level. SERVPRO technicians always use GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters) when working with electrical equipment in wet environments.

Long term exposure to flood water can weaken basement materials such as drywall, flooring, and piers and cinder blocks. Before we begin the mitigation and restoration process, we must investigate for water damage in these areas. This part involves checking for trapped water from above. Drywall becomes soft when wet and may cause ceilings to fall. Freeing the trapped water may require drilling "weep holes" in the ceiling cavities.

Once we have removed the floodwater, we use advanced drying equipment to dry the wet materials. We place dehumidifiers and air movers around the water-damaged area, as well as efficient air scrubbers, to get rid of odors and airborne contaminants. Many cases of foundation flooding also come with mold growth. Before we leave, we check for signs of mold and offer remediation services if there is a problem. The drying process can take a few days. Ask us about our encapsulation service for crawlspaces.

Mold Damage In Daytona Beach -- Does Your AC Unit Match The Area To Be Cooled?

8/5/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Mold Damage In Daytona Beach -- Does Your AC Unit Match The Area To Be Cooled? Matching HVAC Systems Helps Prevent Mold Growth in Daytona Beach--SERVPRO Tip

SERVPRO Offers Advice to Reduce Chances of a Mold Infestation

In a humid and hot area like Florida’s Atlantic Coast homeowners must be vigilant about interior moisture and the potential for mold growth. Many things impact resident’s success in keeping moisture in check. SERVPRO helps local homeowners deal with mold outbreaks and also consults with customers on ways to limit future outbreaks.

You recently installed a new air conditioning system hoping it would keep musty smells and mold damage under control. Humidity levels in your Daytona Beach house should remain less than 60 percent to minimize the potential for mold; many experts recommend a range of 30 to 50 percent. Although your space seems cool, humidity levels are high, and you still smell and struggle with mold. Our mold remediation teams are familiar with ambient humidity issues and their contribution to fungal growth even without other sources of water.

There are many steps residents take to keep water incursions and humidity in check, but matching the load of your air conditioning system appropriately is one you may not consider. If your system is too large, it does not cycle through the cooling phase long enough to remove enough humidity out of the air. Instead, it turns on and off frequently, making the air temperature cooler but not cycling for the length of time necessary to condense enough water on the coils to reduce humidity. The moisture meter readings SERVPRO workers take upon arrival to evaluate your mold troubles signal that the air conditioning is only doing one of its two crucial jobs -- cooling but not dehumidifying.

Another flag we see is residents running both AC and dehumidifiers. A properly operating and sized HVAC system does not need additional help from a continuously running dehumidifier. As we move on to contain and remove the mold, and then sanitize the areas, per EPA guidelines we recommend a consultation with an HVAC specialist who does calculations to determine what size and efficiency AC unit you need to cool and dehumidify your air.

SERVPRO technicians know for certain that if the humidity remains elevated the mold will return. We work with you to review your options with the ultimate goal being an air conditioning unit that carries the “load” of cooling and dehumidifying.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange has many resources available for residents coping with persistent mold issues. Call us at (386) 788-0358 to schedule an evaluation and estimate.

After The Storm -- Abating Flood Damage in Daytona Beach

7/28/2017 (Permalink)

Storm Damage After The Storm -- Abating Flood Damage in Daytona Beach FOR Storm Flooding in South Daytona Beach Get Fast Water Extraction from SERVPRO

The Safe Removal of Contaminated Water After a Flood Takes SERVPRO Expertise

Extreme weather patterns seem common everywhere, and the Central Coast of Florida is no exception to these natural disasters. Although a daily thunderstorm is typical during the summer, five or more inches of rain in a few hours is possible, threatening your home with flooding. SERVPRO knows how to react and return your home to preloss condition.

Flood damage requires a systematic and proven approach to restoration of your Daytona Beach home. The high volume of water pouring off your roof and pooling up in your yard took the easy route into the lowest living areas of your dwelling. The storm filled streets and backed up storm sewers. Fast action on a broad range of tasks is the agenda. Our technicians have extensive training and hands-on experience in flood mitigation and transition seamlessly through the stages of restoration.

The SERVPRO team arrives ready to complete an assessment and then to get to work pumping and extracting several inches of floodwater. Floodwater contains debris from the outdoors and contamination from building materials as it seeped through the foundation. Chemicals from lawn treatments, automotive residues from parking areas and streets, and waste from animals or insects caught in the flood may find their way into your home. We collect the tainted water using truck mounted equipment and store it outside of your home for disposal according to local regulation.

We remove the majority of the standing water and move to the next step setting up powerful air movers and dehumidifiers to dry out the structure and the contents. Floors may bet added help from drying mats. Our team disinfects surfaces and searches for any hidden pockets of water behind paneling or drywall, or in the recessed cells of the cinder blocks lining the foundation. We record a baseline moisture level reading of each area and type of building material and use our advanced training to determine proper drying targets.

Furnishings, electronics and personal belongings may be removed to a staging area for evaluation. Some items may be too full of dirty flood water to retain, but our technicians have specialized training in cleaning, sanitizing, and drying a wealth of items, from upholstered furniture to clothing to books and documents, and more. Many of your treasure survive the flood. We may choose to complete some of the restoration away from your home, but always provide a detailed inventory and discuss which items you want to invest additional resources in recovering.

After the storm passes, you need to contact SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange for fast and efficient flood damage restoration. Call (386) 788-0358 to schedule an inspection within hours.

Restoring House Contents from Fire Damage in Daytona Beach Properties

7/28/2017 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Restoring House Contents from Fire Damage in Daytona Beach Properties Kitchen Fires in Daytona Beach Lead to Much Smoke Damage & Odors--Call SERVPRO

The Degree of Damage Dictates the Steps for Cleanup After Fires

Cooking is one of the most satisfying activities in the world. It is also one of the best ways to bring people together. Unfortunately, studies have shown that cooking accounts for almost 50 percent of all house fires, with cooking equipment boasting 19 percent of home fire deaths. Indeed, an unattended skillet or pan on a stove burner can lead to a fire strong enough to bring the house down within hours, if not minutes.

To be safe, you need to have a restoration company at hand. SERVPRO has highly skilled technicians who can restore house contents from fire damage in your Daytona Beach property anytime. Our emergency response is swift and efficient, and we use effective tools and techniques that are up to par with IICRC recommendations.

SERVPRO technicians consider many things during the fire damage restoration process. When cleaning cabinets, for instance, wood finish around the drawer handles often contains the pre-existing damage. We must check this area before cleaning begins.

The intensity of the smoke damage determines the technique we use. Cleanup on light fixtures is done when restoring the ceiling. The electrical power should be turned off before dealing with any electrical fixture. Chandeliers are relatively harder to clean, especially if they come with decorative trim that requires detailed cleaning. With many years of experience, our technicians can gauge the concentration of smoke residue and choose the most efficient cleaning technique.

Insulation is usually more costly to clean up than to replace. Smoke damage can change its appearance, albeit without compromising its insulating capabilities. If applicable, we can deal with the fire damage by replacing the top 3-4 inches of insulation. However, smoke deodorization is necessary before adding a new layer of insulation, to get rid of toxic odors. If water affected the insulation, in most cases tossing and starting with new material is the correct choice to make.

We use two main deodorization methods: thermal fogging and ozone deodorization. Both are designed to neutralize bad odors resulting from the fire damage. The most common challenge is determining the source of each odor, as different odors originate from different materials. Some odor particles are so tiny that they can penetrate virtually any surface. That is where thermal fogging products enter the areas of these particulates, mimicking the trail of the heated smoke, and chemically alter the smelly specs. However, SERVPRO restorers deal with all sorts of odors and therefore have a special procedure for identifying and eliminating them.

In some cases, it may be necessary to initiate a pack-out during the fire damage restoration. A pack-out involves moving your contents to a separate, safe location. It is very labor intensive and only necessary under special circumstances – for instance when there is a need to speed up the restoration process, or the structure has sustained too much damage to accommodate the items.

A fire disaster in your home can lead to considerable loss of property. Fortunately, you can count on SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange, a locally owned company, to minimize the fire damage. Call us today at (386) 788-0358.

Water Damage Local College Flood Classrooms were heavily affected but because of quick thinking by the school damage was minimized.

It was a normal Friday at the local college, classes were almost finished for the day and faculty was getting ready to head home. One of the maintenance men noticed a pump from the water tank was showing low pressure and as a back up two more pumps came online to make up the difference. What was happening? A pipe burst inside of a maintenance room of the science building. Unfortunately the door were closed and the room began to fill with water until it reached approximately 6-7ft and a wall gave way releasing over 10,000 gallons of water into the 1st floor of the building. Does Your Volusia County Home Have A Mold Problem?

8/19/2016 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Does Your Volusia County Home Have A Mold Problem? In Volusia County, mold can spread through a home in as little as 48 hours.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Daytona Beach Smoke and Soot Cleanup

7/27/2016 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Daytona Beach Smoke and Soot Cleanup Don't worry, we can make this Like it never even happened.

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Daytona Beach will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Services

Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions.  We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.
